Keep Calm & … What?!

I don’t understand the, “Keep Calm,” trend. Am I the only one?

When did it start?

Where did it come from?

What does it mean?!

All of a sudden, my Pinterest, Facebook, and general everyday life began to fill with Keep Calm phrases. I don’t get it, and I must admit, I haven’t made any attempt to understand the craze.

On our honeymoon we were in London and went to see the Lion King on the West End (totally amazing might I add!). I saw a souvenir shirt that said, “Keep Calm & Hakuna Matata.”

I LOVE this, simply because I know one of my best friends would love it too. She’s a massive Lion King fan, but the shirt was pretty pricey, especially once I converted it back to Aussie dollars from Pounds.

So, with this in mind, I’ve created my own Keep Calm & Hakuna Matata cross stitch pattern. I feel like a slight traitor though, simply because I haven’t wanted to jump on the keep calm bandwagon .. I feel like I can jump on the bandwagon though for the greater good of one of my best friends.

I’ve made a couple of adjustments to my pattern though. For starters, I’ve dropped the picture that I tend to see at the start of keep calm phrases, mostly because I couldn’t see something that I liked well enough. I’ve added a border to my pattern to, which I’m thinking of doing in a yellow and red, to mimic African kind of colours. The lettering is going to be in all black, and I might backstitch with a colour but I’m not 100% decided yet.

I’ve realised that a lot of my patterns aren’t finalised until I see the (semi) finished result. For those of you that create your own patterns, do you find this too? I’m starting to think perhaps I’m just a tad indecisive haha!
