Finito! – Geometric Baby Quilt

I’m a little late to post this, as my client collected this quilt last weekend – work has been so busy, and it’s Mr A’s birthday this week so it’s been alllll a-go at our place. Anywho, here it is! All finished, wrapped and given to my client (who loved it!).

1 thing I found with this quilt is it was SO hard to quilt! I didn’t want to go through Jett’s name on the back, but I really wanted to follow the pattern on the front. In the end I settled on straight line quilting this, as there was no way for me to not quilt through Jett’s name.

In future I’m going to design my quilts with the quilting portion in mind. I know that lots of people love the quilting aspect, but I actually really dread it – I much prefer designing, cutting and piecing the backs and fronts. Does anyone else feel this way?! or am I the only crazy quilter out there haha :)

I’d love to know what you think of my latest commission!

Clean Eating – Choc Mint Tart

I made this amazing choc mint tart for a dinner parties with some girlfriends on the weekend, and I HAD to share it with you guys, because it’s too good not to share!

I came across Bianca’s Wholefood Simply website a while ago, and just haven’t gotten around to making any of her recipes. Bianca’s recipes are all gluten and refined sugar free, so they’re great for anyone with sensitive eaters.

One of my girlfriends is gluten free, so I decided to make a dessert that she would be able to eat. I haven’t made any gluten free recipes, but I was delighted when this one turned out so well! I think it would be great for anyone who is clean eating during BBG, or any other fitness regime.

If you’re after clean, healthy treat recipes, I definitely recommend Bianca’s website!

Choc Mint Tart

Choc Mint Tart

Choc Mint Tart

  • 2 cups desiccated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons cacao or cocoa
  • 10 dates (I had to add these in order for the base to be less crumbly)

  • flesh of 2 ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon natural peppermint extract
  • top (optional)
  • 30 grams dark chocolate, melted
  1. Place the base ingredients into your food processor and pulse at high speed until the mixture resembles a sticky crumb.
  2. Press the mixture firmly into the base of an 18cm spring form pan.
  3. Place in the freezer to set.
  4. To make the filling place the avocados and coconut oil into your food processor and blend at low to medium speed until the mixture is becoming quite smooth. Add the honey, blend again at medium speed. Your mixture should be fairly smooth by now. Mix in the peppermint extract.
  5. Spoon the filling over the base, level the top with the back of a spoon and return the tart to the freezer for 2 hours.
  6. Remove from the freezer. Use a teaspoon to drizzle over the melted chocolate. Serve. Eat. Enjoy

Kayla Itsines // BBG Week 7, Day 2

IMG_0554YOU GUYS – I’m officially over half way! What a feeling – I’m on the homeward stretch! When I first started I knew this would be hard; nothing great ever comes to us easy. We have to continually work for it in order to achieve our goals.

It’s only been 6 weeks, but I know I’ve made a lifetime change. My eating habits have drastically changed; no more after dinner snacking, I always have breakfast and start my day right to kick start my metabolism, and I make better choices when it comes time for something sweet. This alone is one reason I am so thankful I started BBG.

From Weeks 5 onwards, Kayla definitely kicks it up a notch. I think I almost cried when I realised the reps for burpees increases from 10 to 15. Who would’ve thought that x5) additional reps could hurt so bad?

I definitely shed a tear when I realised that jump lunges increase from x20) reps to x30) reps – those last x10) lunges really get you!

I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to anyone who is starting, who is halfway, or who is doing BBG for their x123) time; you guys are all amazing, and I’m so thankful we’ve all decided to make this lifestyle change together!

Kayla Itsines // BBG Week 6, Day 5 + Step Ups & Knee Ups

Week 6 has definitely kicked up a notch in the intensity department – each of Kayla’s resistance training this week have left me sore, super sweaty, and shaking from the intensity – I LOVE IT!

After seeing some amazing BBG girl’s post their workout videos on Insta, I’ve realised I’ve been doing knee ups and steps up wrong this whole time!

Kayla does explain how to do them in the guides, but I must have read the wrong – I’ve been alternating sides for the total amount of reps, rather than the correct method of doing all the reps on one side, and switching to the next.

For example; if your circuit has x30) knee ups (15 each side), do ALL of your left side before swapping to your right. I did them the correct way during my final resistance workout for Week 6, which was legs and cardio, and my legs hurt SO bad haha!

I’m glad I’ve finally figured out the correct way to do them; I can see why Kayla instructs them this way, instead of alternating.

Even though I’ve been doing it wrong the last 6 weeks, I know it was still of benefit – I’ll just do them the right way from now on! My watch below shows my warm up and cool down time; ~300 calories in 28 minutes is alright by me! ;)

Update – Geometric Baby Quilt

I’m so close to finishing this commission; it’s been a mammoth task as there’s quite a few elements to this quilt, but I’m on the home stretch now and wanted to share its’ progress. The front is a geometric pattern in primary colours – you can see it here!

Geometric Quilt Back

Geometric Quilt Back

The airplane applique is all done, and so is the applique for the back!

It was hard work to applique Jett’s full name onto the back of this quilt, due to the size of the back. At first I was going to colour block the white letters onto a red rectangle, but I thought it would have a better contrast against the dark navy backing.

I’ll be finishing off the binding tonight, and then this commission is ALL DONE! I can’t tell you how happy I’ll be when my client has her order; she has been super excited which had made me very excited, but has also made me feel a teeny tiny amount of pressure though.

I’ll be sure to post a photo when this commission is all done – enjoy your own crafting adventures! x
